IDST 2205: Global Issues in Society fulfills a requirement in the core curriculum at Georgia College & State University under Area B, understanding Society. IDST 2205 is an interdisciplinary course intended to acquaint students with the major issues facing the global village today, including health, world population, sustainability and global economics, governance, world conflict, nuclear proliferation and other issues relating to the environment.

This course is taught by faculty from anthropology, geography, political science, international affairs, English, and the Modern Foreign languages. Some sections are taught by individual faculty members, while others are team-taught, such as the one I observed in fall 1999.

To further explore the structure of the course, one may want to study the syllabi for several sections of the course.

Since I have never taught the course, my collection here of course materials is not as detailed as for my IDST 2310 course portfolio. I attended several sessions of the course and then made a detailed study of work produced in conjunction with a simulation I created within the Global Issues course Web site.

To explore a simulation I created for the Fall 1999 course on the rain forest problem, click here.

To explore the assignment for the simulation as well as student papers and a streaming video of their in-class debate, click here.
