For my self-portrait I choose to use a box of envelopes. This is because I liked not only the size and shape of the box but what the box represented. The box to me represents a traveler because that's what envelopes do. The outside of my box has three main colors pink, blue, and green. I choose these colors because I thought that they expressed not only some of the Yoruba characteristics but they also show that I have a vibrant personality.

The front of the box is decorated in yellow, green and red. This also coencides with my Yoruba colors of dudu and pupa. Another reason that I choose these colors is because the are primary colors. They can make any color they want with the right combonations. I relate that to myself because I have always been taught that if I put my mind to something then, I like the colors can get what I want. The shapes on the front of the box represent stability, unity, my relationships with others, and growth and change. The lines on the front of the box represent my emotional, and sensous side. The top of the box is covered in foil. This is because I believe that my feelings reflect the feelings of those around me.

On the inside of the box there is cling wrap. This is there for two reasons. One because I believe that I am transparent and the other is because like the cling wrap I cling to things I love or care about greatly. Under the cling wrap is four sections.

The box is divided into four sections because I think that my I can be divided into four parts. The first section contains a cat toy and a ceramic pig. This is because I love animals and I love my cat. The fur on the cat toy symbolizes my warm and fuzzy side. The second section of my box has a credit card, a dollar bill and a recite. This shows my materialistic side. It also shows my dreams for the future since I want to be a buyer. The third section has pictures of my friends, family, and boyfriend in it. It also contains a ring which has been passed down in my family for three generations. This section represents my values of friendship and love. The last section contains a single key. This symbolizes my secrecy. I believe that life wouldn't be as interesting if everyone knew everything about you. People are facinated with the unknown.

In this section my deepest and darkest secrets are kept. I believe that my self-portrait relates best to Jung. This is because his views of self totally reflect my own feelings. One main reason that I choose a box to do my self-portrait in was because it symbolized stability and realism. Jung believes that the self provides these things. He believes that the self is one's goal in life and that it provides unity, equilibrium and stability. He also believes that the self holds things together. These are all qualities that I can relate to. My friends and family know me for taking charge of things and holding them together whether it's a family crisis or a math project.

I also think that my self-portrait coencides with the art and music of the Romantic era. This is because during the Romantic era people were striving to be individuals. Everyone was trying to go above and beyond everyone else. The great composer Lizt is an excellent example of this. He took the piano to a new level. His playing was faster and more complex than anyone had ever heard. I believe that I to have high goals for myself. Sometimes they might even be unatainable, but the want is still there.
