As my self-portrait project I chose to represent myself abstractly as an old running shoe. My shoe that I chose is an old running shoe of mine that has been through a lot. It has been about six hundred miles through wet weather and dry. It has been with me in the cold and in the heat. Basically the running shoe represents who I am.

The exterior portion of the shoe has a large triangle with smaller ones inside of it. This shows how I am very goal oriented and trying very hard to achieve a balance in all the parts of my life. The smaller triangles show there are many areas of my life that I am trying to achieve a balance in. The squares on either side of the shoe show my stability and down to earth personality. They are located in the back portion of the shoe because that is the most stable part of the shoe. The triangles and squares are black and green. This represents my down to earth personality, dudu colorse difficult choices and decisions I am making at this point in life. This is what everyone sees when they see me on campus or meets me for the first time.

As the shoelaces are pulled back the tongue of the shoe folds back farther. On the tongue of the shoe I have a spiral showing that everything is changing and growing. The next thing people find out about me as they get to know me is that I can goof around. I show this by having a red monkey inside my shoe. The red shows the vibrant side of me.

The next thing people find out when they get to know me even more is that I played the trombone for nine years. I represented this by putting musical notes inside the shoe. When people are closest to me and become my good friend then they will see what is closest to me in my heart. They get to learn and meet my family. I represented my family by putting a tree in my shoe with my brother’s name, my sister’s name, my mom, and my dad written on it. When people get the closest to me they learn about my family and my family tree as I have it represented here.

The tongue of the shoe does not pull back any further and there is a small section left that no one sees. This portion is the deepest part of my soul that no one knows and I am not sure I even know. That is why no one can see it. Someday the closest one to me will share that section of the shoe with me.

Overall the insole of the shoe represents my inner soul. The outside of the shoe shows what I have picked up over time. This is shown on the bottom of the shoe with the paint spots, which represent all the bits of information I have picked up over the years.

My personality through the emotion in music as we discussed in class can be described in all different aspects. The more vibrant pieces of music that are at a faster rhythm show my hot-tempered personality, which I showed in my self-portrait. The music that has more dissonance and minor chords in it shows my tense side of myself. Sometimes I can get stressed and that is shown through the minor dissonant music. The major chords found in pieces of music show my cool-tempered side and more relaxed side. This how music is shown in my personality and how I represented it in my self-portrait.
