HOUSES OF PRAYER:
GREEK AESTHETICS AND THE ACROPOLIS
by Dr. Deborah Vess
The Erectheon
The Erectheon is built on the site of the original temple of the Acropolis.
It is famous for its south porch,
which is supported by caryatid
statues. It was built in 420 B.C.E., and has two sections, one dedicated
to the worship of Athena and the other to Poseidon.
