It is important to develop critical skills when studying primary sources and also secondary interpretations.  Film is another medium that often purports to interpret the past, and in this class, we will see a wide range of interpretations of medieval topics.  Many of these interpretations say more about the age in which the film was produced that about the actual medieval topics themselves.  The following resources will help you in your study of the films used in this course:

The Ahistoricism of Medieval Film

Internet Movie Database   You can find just about any movie ever made listed here, although often the descriptions are short and the reviews are even more truncated.  This is a good place to start, but don't stop here.

MGM maintains a database of its movies.

Rotten Tomatoes this is a GREAT site to find loads of reviews of movies.

Movie Review Query Engine find review of movies on the Internet. A good many from this engine come from the IMD.

The British Film Institute  has an array of resources on directors, films, and other materials.

About.com award winning films on the Middle Ages

Foreignfilms.com has a nice set of resources on world films.

Medieval History in the Movies from Paul Halsall

Screening the Past online journal about film and history

Film and History another online journal
