Lesson One: A Simple Home Page

You'll be using Microsoft Word to make a simple home page in this exercise. You may print these instructions and work along in Word. This page was made in Word using the Web Wizard and other tools.

Remember the basic requirements for a home page: Name (picture or graphic of your choice), Office Address, Office Phone, E-mail Address, Major Links on your site. Keep your home page simple and short so the student doesn't have to scroll down the page to find the links they need.

The major links you might consider on this page are: Courses You're Teaching, Personal Information (like your C.V.), and Internet Resources you've found helpful.

Before designing your web page, think about the layout and design you'd like. Look at it from the student perspective. Spend some time out on the Internet -- World Lecture Hall -- looking at other home pages and course pages. Take a look around before deciding on your first home page. Remember, you can always alter, change, and just play with the html file for a while before sending it to the WWW. Here is a simple graphic of this web site's layout (done with Corel Flow, screen capture with Hypersnap and saved in a .gif format).
