Microsoft Word

FDW '99

January 29 (1-2:15pm)

With so little class time, it will be necessary for you to familiarize yourselves with a few of the capabilities of Microsoft Word. In Menus 1-4, some of the functions of the Menu Bar are described. On Menu 4, creating tables is discussed with a few step by step guidelines.

I suggest that you print the sections to use as a guide as you familiarize yourselves with Microsoft Word. Keep a notebook of handouts and information throughout the workshop for future reference.

For personal references, you might the check-out "Dummies" books for Word 97. You can also subscribe to Dummiesdaily at http://www.dummiesdaily.com/home/index01.html. They'll send hints on many Microsoft products to you by email. Also, "Teach Yourself Office 97 Quickly and Easily" or Office 97 One Step at a Time. These are available from Amazon.com for under $30.00 each. [Thanks Jeannie for this information!]

You might want to check out the Microsoft web site for downloads and add-ins for your Office 97 program. Lots of cool stuff is there -- including different types of Office Assistants (in case you're tired of the paper clip helper). You should download the Service Releases: 1 & 2. Do it online at work -- it could take hours from home!

I would like to know at least one task you need Microsoft Word to do for you. I will try to incorporate these requests into the classroom presentation. Please e-mail your special request to djclark@mail.gcsu.edu as soon as possible, but before January 15th. Thanks a bunch -- See You In Class!
