The Rainforest Summit Fall 1999

Students in the fall 1999 IDST 2205 Global Issues (section 1) course participated in a mock world summit on the rainforest issue. Students were required to assume a role, write a five-page paper on their role's perspective on the issue, and to participate in an in-class debate. Although I was not involved in teaching this section of the course, I created a web page with a set of resources related to various aspects of the rainforest debate. On the end-of-the-term surveys, students could often elucidate the position their figure took, but could not clearly distinguish the disciplinary perspectives involved in their research into their role.
