St. Mary's Parish Church, Lindisfarne

View of St. Mary's from the hill

St. Mary's Church from the west facade of the priory. There is a cross base directly in front of the church that is one of the original Anglo-Saxon cross bases. The cross which it held has long since disappeared, and was perhaps destroyed by the Danes. St. Mary's parish church was completed in the thirteenth century.

Inside the church, there is a needlepoint replica of a page from the Lindisfarne Gospels on the altar. Click here for a view of the altar.

The replica of Cuthbert's Coffin in St. Mary's parish church on Lindisfarne. The original coffin is in Durham cathedral.

A tiny coracle, such as the ones the Irish monks used to sail the North Sea.
