During the
dot-com boom my research focused on electronic commerce, especially relating to
electronic trading partner relationships. Previous journal articles
demonstrated a coherent research program that examined how Fortune 500 firms
used their public Web sites to communicate with trading partners, especially
minority and women-owned firms. The 2004 Mid-American
Journal of Business article was a multi-industry examination of
transactional corporate Web sites. The 2000 Journal of Electronic Commerce
Research article was one of the first to systematically classify the
content of large-firm, public Web sites. The 2005 JITIM article and the 2002 article in the Journal of Computer
Information System are unique in that they look specifically at how these
large firms use their public Web sites as a component of their supplier
diversity programs. Very few studies to date have examined the impact of the
Web on supply chain relationships, or have combined the topics of Web-based
supplier communications and supplier diversity initiatives. By concentrating on
Web-based supply chain impacts and on Web-enabled supplier diversity
initiatives my current research efforts are examining critical areas that, so
far, have received scant attention by academics.
My publications
include two other research streams: application-specific studies (i.e.,
e-government, customer relationship management systems, executive information
systems, and end-user computing), and studies of the IS job market (e.g.,
offshore outsourcing, certification, and skill requirements for IS graduates).
These research efforts have been reported to both an academic and a
practitioner audience. For example, the Borths and Young (2000) paper was one
of the earliest papers to examine and report on the future of electronic
billing to an executive audience.
I have
co-authored papers with seven different faculty members and eight graduate
students in the business school at
