Historical San Andreas

July 2048 - the year the San Andreas Fault caused an earthquake large enough to split off the section of California formerly known as Los Angeles. There was much confusion and loss of life during the devastation of the Split of ‘48, until an unknown playwright emerged as the leader of the new island. Gaining the people’s trust by assuring that the continental U.S. would come to their aid, the mysterious playwright began his work of restoring the city and organizing the people. After only a few months, the former city of L.A. changed its name to San Andreas Island, and the playwright slowly grew in his power over the countless young actors and actresses...

The island was transformed into one giant movie set, and the citizens of San Andreas Island were convinced that working for the Producer, as the playwright had come to be called, would be the greatest opportunity of their acting careers. So, with a brand new concept to revolutionize the movie making industry, the Producer retreated to the top of Wilshire Tower where he worked steadily to oversee the production of his movies. With constant knowledge of the goings on in his island by hidden security cameras, the Producer learned to control every aspect of the people’s lives. His most trusted group of followers, known to him as the Black Berets, were responsible for carrying out all of his tasks. Before long, the citizens’ entire days were filled with conditioning and filming. The second and third generations of citizens to be born grew up knowing nothing more than how to make movies. Whatever was being filmed - they lived it.

Then on the fateful day of July 5, 2095, 47 years after the Split of ‘48, another great earthquake changed the destiny of San Andreas Island. Though distant, it knocked out all of the power on the island. The citizens awoke, went to their mailboxes, and found no daily scripts waiting for them. Jaws were dropped, and a moment in history, now called “The Great Silence”, followed, during which the entire island was speechless. Without their scripts, no one knew how to speak for themselves; even the crickets ceased to chirp.

“The Day of Improv” was one of quiet chaos. The Beauty Bots had shut down, the equipment was worthless, and even the Directors had no plan for restoring order. Over this day, the people discovered that things could happen on their own, things not written out on a piece of paper. The world did not really end when the movie was over. The Producer instructed his Black Berets to continue filming with the faulty equipment, just to restore the semblance of order, but by then it was too late. One by one, the citizens begin to veer from the script, and the Directors found it hard to keep them in line. They began to realize what it meant to live their own lives, and not the lives expected for them by millions of viewers across the globe. Revolution broke out, and within two months the actors stormed the Wilshire Tower, overthrowing the Producer in an event now recorded as the Defenestration of Wilshire Tower.
